Bueno, this week we decided as a district to fast for the investigators whos names keep coming up on our calender but keep getting set back. We had a list of about 6 people. One of our investigators was on it. Her name is Mirian. (not miriam.. sorry mom). She wants to get baptized and comes to church every week and she loves the church. She is one of the basically member investigators. The plan we had was that every companionship in our district would have a day of the week to fast so that every single day there was someone fasting for these 6 people. Every. Single. Day. We had Friday which meant we started our fast after lunch on Friday and went until Saturday lunch. We did it and it was great. It is amazing to be able to fast. Yeah, maybe we get a little hungry but for me when my stomach grumbles like it’s about to explode, it just reminds me of the people for whom I am fasting. There is a power behind fasting with a purpose.
The funny thing that happened was that it was also the first Sunday of the month so after we ate a very big lunch on Saturday we started our second fast for the Sunday (in which we fasted for the Córdoba temple dedication). WE FASTED TWO DAYS IN A ROW. And it was actually really great! I found myself not even being hungry. Fasting is so much easier when we have a purpose behind it!
This week also, Hermana Jones got sick. So we had to stay inside on Tuesday and let her get a little recooporation going on. She is doing great now but it was sure weird to be inside all day and boy oh boy did I have cabin fever.
It is really starting to get cold here and we are seeing the cold take effect on finding investigators. No one wants to answer there door or let us in. But we are trying new things every day to see what works best and to find the people who are really to have this gospel in their life.
This week I studied a lot in Doctrine and Covenants when the Lord is calling a bunch of elders to His work. It helped me learn about God and that He is really hastening his work and has been since the Restoration of his Gospel and we really are that much closer the the coming of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is hasting his work and running full speed ahead. The question is: our we running with him or against him? Whos on the Lord’s side who? now is the time to show.
I know this church is the one true church of God because I have felt it in my heart and soul. I am grateful for all I am learning and all I am applying. But more than anything I am grateful for the person He is making me.
Nos vemos en un ratito queridos!!
Hermana Janessa Houston
